Creative Connections Pilot Program

Charlie’s Gift Center for Autism and Related Disorders and the Ly Hotchkin Art Program at The Community House are partnering to offer a new visual arts class tailored to children on the autism spectrum or related conditions called Creative Connections.

Students create projects aimed at increasing participants’ self-esteem, self-expression, as well as enhancing individuals’ social-emotional communication skills. All different types of media and techniques will be explored and can be modified under the guidance of a licensed art therapist and clinical therapist team member.

The course provides an opportunity for students to both collaborate and to respond to one another’s work. All supplies will be included and classes will be held in our art studio on The Community House premises.

Classes will begin June 12 and conclude July 24. This free pilot course will be open to children diagnosed on the autism spectrum or related conditions aged 6-12. Class size will be limited in this initial session.

The instructor of the course will be Jennifer Kotecki. Ms. Kotecki holds a Master’s degree from Adler University’s Art Therapy program and brings a wealth of experience of working with children with disabilities in classroom settings.  She will be accompanied in the class room by our staff therapist Nicole Diaz, MA, LPC.
