“The Community House is the mortar that holds together the bricks of the community -– the only organization in the area that reaches out to the full spectrum of people."

 -- Life Trustee Fred Krehbiel

The Community House is a nonprofit organization (501(c)3) that delivers both quality recreation programs and affordable social services that are deeply rooted in the community. It makes a difference in the lives of thousands of families and individuals that need local opportunities for athletics, arts and culture, counseling, learning, building friendships, and community connections. Based in Hinsdale and serving the surrounding suburbs, The Community House staff is dedicated and committed to offering a warm and welcoming environment and programs to improve the social, physical and emotional well-being for its users.

We are grateful to the many generous community volunteers and contributors who provide their time, talents and financial gifts each year to The Community House.

What We Do...
We counsel individuals and families as well as reach youth who are at risk, and enrich the lives of seniors.  We offer recreational and educational programs for individuals of all ages, as well as a community meeting space for local non-profit, social and civic organizations. The Community House is a place where the community can gather and each person can find ways to grow.

Who We Serve...
Our community is comprised of residents from throughout DuPage and Western Cook counties.  The overall scope of our recreational and social services serves a very diverse population.   Overall, our DuPage County service area is thriving economically, but several significant, though isolated pockets of poverty exist.  While our services reach a broad cross section of residents in our community, we have become a critical player in helping to address the unmet needs of underserved and economically disadvantaged residents in the area. In Willowbrook Corner, we offer critically needed, highly effective services to the residents of one of the largest high poverty areas in the County.

How We Are Sustained...
From the beginning, our founders expected the community to provide the time and resources required to address the needs of our residents. Several generations of leadership have stepped up to the challenge and generously contributed their time and financial support to allow The Community House to become a critical resource to the community.   The Community House depends upon allocations from the Downers Grove and Hinsdale United Ways, charitable gifts, program fees and volunteer efforts to underwrite services and defray operating costs. The organization does not receive tax support for ongoing operations.
